Blog Review

This blog is not for everybody's taste but more like something you can relate to. Thats why i enjoyed it and picket it as part of my assignment.

This female writer of the blog ‘your confusing me’ is definitely somebody i or any young woman can relate to. The blogs are interesting everyday stuff, mostly things that she comes across her everyday life and just posts her thoughts on her blog, from reviewing a portable ladies ‘loo’ to the tv programs she watches everyday.

The language is simple and easy to read. I like her conversational tone. She says it like it is. I love her use of words like ‘nackbag’s’ or the word ‘fuck’ which she actually dedicated an entry to. I enjoy the way she puts sounds into her reactions to her stories without big explanations or vocabulary to how she feels, ‘ugh’, ‘hmm’ and ‘wtf’.

She adds her own style to things for example one of her intros to her entry was a the song ‘Hot ‘n’ Cold’ by Katy Perry with the lyrics slightly changed into: ‘My Shower changes it’s mind, like a girl changes clothes’ , making her entries fun and humorous.

The writer uses media elements like videos and images to her particular topics.

She has no particular links on her page.

Aristotle's Influence in today's world

Aristotle’s Influence in today’s world

Aristotle’s influence on the narrative is now visible to me more than ever. I can honestly agree that his theories influenced today’s narrative. Recently I went to the cinema to see The Confessions of a Shopaholic. I have read the book and only when I saw the film Aristotle’s logic and theory struck me.

Aristotle’s theory can be matched to this film. Like his famous Oedipus story, the main character ‘the girl in the green scarf’ is influenced by this theory; it doesn’t mention pity and fear. Tragedy sparks an intellectual response, a fearing moment of perfect clarity. Balance rationality, where higher forces bring everything together to make sense.

The reversal in the story happens and her luck changes from good to bad as she sends a wrong letter to a mixed up editor, recognition follows when she realises she has a problem with shopping and hurts somebody she loves and cares for. As a character she is seen as a hero she still has a flaw.

Another film influenced by Aristotle’s theories is well known Casablanca. The character; we are introduced to the main character Rick who owns and operates a thriving nightclub and casino, we find him loved and envied by everybody. We quickly find him caught up in a chain of intertwined personal and political events that force him to make some fateful decisions. We see him just like in The Confessions of a Shopaholic and Oedipus a hero who is flawed. The plot; is changed by reversal in the story leading to the recognition. After his attempt to win her over he manages to do the heroic thing in the end as he recognises himself and what he is doing, he sends his beloved on a plane with her husband as it was the right thing to do. As Rick returns to America to me it mirrors Oedipus’s leaving.

Decriptive piece - The Exam

The old rusty chair was making squeaky sounds as I sat down placing my pens, pencils and everything that seemed necessary.

The hall seemed to be separating everybody physically, the exam papers however disconnecting us emotionally. This still hall was hallow with chatter, the uniformed students made no sounds, all patiently waiting for the clock to strike 9.30.

Like everybody in the room I was nervous, my hands shaking and sweating as I rubbed them together, distracting myself from looking at the clock on the unevenly chipped wall.
Avoiding the time that was moving at a snail’s pace I concentrated on what I had revised from my messy, unorganised yet helpful notes.

For a second my fickle mind drifted off to what would happen if none of the stuff that I had studied and hoped would come up... I shook my head as if pouring the thoughts out into the sink, convincing myself to be optimistic.

For a second I was fine distracted by the movement around and my mind just drifted off, but just for that second, in no time I was back in the warm room as the sun reached me through the high hall windows. All of a sudden everybody is aware of the time of year, as the hot summer sun lights up the pale and familiar space where we all sat.

Just as the ray of June sun was pulling itself back slowly yet quickly to the human eye throw the window the examiner stood up.

I heard a slight gasp and a few inhaling sounds. I was at that moment ready to take on the world. The tall examiner who wear strange clothes for a middle aged man, started to place the exam papers almost slamming them on the desks, the sound made the room more intense.

As my paper reached the desk the nerves and butterflies hit my stomach. I felt like I was hung upside down! At this point of the moment we all heard each other’s thoughts “10 seconds” , I placed the pen in my slippery from the sweat hand... “5 seconds” and like a race we all wanted to do the best in we all turned pages hoping that we will reach the finish line within the time limit.
